Skirting Touchy Subjects

Do you expect a preacher to skirt touchy subjects?  Wouldn’t you prefer just a cheerleader message to one that “steps on your toes?”

If you are a believer who listens to a preacher each week, you should want the preacher to deal with the whole Word of God; to teach on every subject on which God has spoken; and certainly not let up on sin just because we would rather not discuss it.

If that is true, then why should it be any different for our current message series?  It shouldn’t but, I have to admit, I felt awkward about the Proverbial language concerning wives–especially using the word, “Nagging.”

Awkward or not, God’s Word is true and is best for us to hear and apply to our lives.  None of us like hearing how we’ve wronged God or each other.  None of us likes feeling that we bear the responsibility to change our behavior or humble ourselves.

Though we don’t like discipline, it is the only way to make lasting corrections in our lives.  It is like the proverbial “hard pill to swallow” which is the only cure.

Open yourself up today to some hard, but true words from God.  Don’t skirt the issues that you know lie at the heart of the matter.

***Nice addition to this post comes from Perry Noble…

Contrast between these two questions:  “What do these people want me to say?” and “What does Jesus want me to say?”
